My art has become more people centric as I read the morning newspapers. The pandemic has created havoc in the lives of many small traders, shopkeepers and the middle classes of India. People have lost jobs and some are forced to look into other means of earning their living.
This painting depicts a fruit seller selling fruits from door to door in the hot sun in the old city of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. This also represents lost opportunities in these harsh lockdown times in view of the eminent third wave coming to India. My heart goes out to such hard working people who are struggling and looking for opportunities to enhance their business. It seems that all of a sudden the businesses have closed as represented by the closed door here and we are left with frustrations. But the human spirit is alive and this fruit seller has decided to sell her fruits from door to door as all shops have been forced to shut down because of the lockdowns imposed by authorities. I have mostly used blue to depict the melancholy but their is a spluttering of hope in the pink color used to depict all is not lost.
