Mhari Ghoomar
Acrylic painting on stretched canvas titled “Rhythm”, 24 by 30 inches,
Frame not included
The Ghoomar dance, the traditional dance of the Bhil tribe to worship the Goddess Saraswati has been ranked fourth in the “Top 10 local dances around the world” in 2013. The traditional movement of the dancers is a part of their wedding ritual and they dance with gay abandon and grace as the handmade skirts flair slowly. My painting does not show the dancers with heavy jewelry or make-up, instead it shows their natural beauty and their colorful attire is highlighted synchronized with the musician in the foreground.
